Buy Store Brands and Save
Shopping at discount department stores or supermarkets you'll likely find their pool of store brands. Also sometimes called generic brands, store brands are made by the store who sells them. There are good reasons to buy store brands instead of name brand merchandise in many cases. Many stores sell their own brand of product. For example, Wal-Mart has a variety of store brands sold in their various locations including Sam's Choice and Simply Basic to name just two. You may recognize store brands in other discount superstores like K-Mart and Target also.
Maybe you are used to buying name brand merchandise and don't know whether or not store brands are as good. One way to find out is by getting online and looking up user reviews of the products. Although there are plenty of name brand reviews out there you can also find store brand product reviews. By reading what other consumers thought of a particular product you can better decide whether you want to try it or not. In most cases the store brand product will be equal in quality to the name brand and in some cases better.
If you compare the price of a store brand to a name brand, you will notice anywhere from a small to a significant savings. In some cases you may want to go with the name brand, especially if you know it is what you prefer or if you have a coupon. In cases of coupons sometimes it can be cheaper to buy name brand. When using coupons, consider shopping on days when they can be doubled or tripled for even more savings. There are also stores that offer military and senior citizen discounts on certain days if you fall into either of those categories.
When you buy store brands you are often supporting the national economy as many of the products are made in the U.S.A. In addition, you are helping businesses in your area thrive. At first if you are used to the fancy name brand merchandise you may feel you are downgrading, but in most cases you'll be quite satisfied with store brand products. You may even find them superior, yet less expensive, than what you're used to.
